Open a shell (CTRL + ALT + t) and type shell. You'll likely be greeted by a pending system update just minutes after you power the computer on, and it will take a handful of minutes (depending on your internet connection, of course) after that point to download your settings, extensions and preferences, but you'll be up and running identically to the minute you powered it off to replace the drive. Boot into ChromeOS, connect to a wireless network and log in as guest. Move through the setup process just as you normally would, add in your Google credentials and you'll be logged in. This will open the Chrome OS Image Burner. Chrome://imageburner Insert your USB memory stick. It sounds like you did that successfully, but the application isnt using the latest nf file available. If, however, that isnt going to work, youll need to grab the Windows tool and install it to another machine. Once the SD card is inserted, you need to open the Chrome browser and type chrome://imageburner into the address bar. Dell Chromebook Recovery Utility Step 5: Click the Create Now button. If so, you can actually use it to create the recovery device by opening a new tab and visiting chrome://imageburner. The Chromebook will automatically recognize the disk as a recovery media and start the restore process. For newer Chromebooks, you can recover the OS with an internet connection.
